The Enhanced Tourism and Education Project (ETEP) of RDCK Area A (Wynndel / East Shore Kootenay Lake) requires a project manager to lead the two year project which will increase collaboration between existing tourism businesses and develop potential in experiential and educational tourism.  The successful candidate will report to the ETEP steering committee.

The Project Manager will oversee the development, implementation and tracking of the two-year project to meet the targets and deliverables of the ETEP project (see ETEP project plan).  This is a term contract position working an estimated average of 20 hours per week from the period of January 2018 through December 2019.  Hourly compensation will be based on actual hours worked to accomplish identified tasks.  Time sheets and a brief work summary for each pay period are to be submitted to the ETEP steering committee for review and then to SKLCSS for payment on a monthly basis.

 

This position is based in Electoral Area A (Wynndel/East Shore Kootenay Lake) of the RDCK.  Travel expenses may be reimbursed when work must be performed outside of Area A.

 

ETEP PROJECT GOALS:

  • Increase economic activity in the tourism sector in Area A (Wynndel, East Shore) through coordination among existing businesses and organizations, cross training and cross promotion, and creation of new products to expand and diversify the local learning economy.
  • Develop and disseminate primary market research to visitors, service providers and institutions to track growth in visitations, return visits, positive referrals, and new market development.
  • Develop and pilot collaborative educational tourism products
  • Build relationships with funders and potential collaborators to support and promote tourism in the region and in the local economy.
  • Help develop a dedicated mobile friendly website and a business plan with sustainable operational framework, and marketing/promotional plan.

Working closely with the steering committee, primary duties of this role include but are not limited to:

 

  • Provide input into development of project milestones and timeline
  • Assemble and surface existing Area A projects and programs
  • Conduct or manage primary marketing research
  • Coordinate and participate in project teams with community members and business representatives to develop various enhanced education tourism projects
  • Support consultation processes to ensure stakeholder input is considered and reflected
  • Manage promotional material development and dissemination
  • Apply for summer student funding & Manage the summer student(s) at Visitor Centre in the summer
  • Represent the steering committee and liaise with a variety of government agencies, stakeholder groups and the community during meetings.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

 

    • Previous project management experience and related education
    • Previous grant writing, reporting and contract administration/management experience
    • Knowledge of the principles, practices, concepts and issues related to tourism marketing and promotion
    • Ability to build cooperative partnerships with various government, community and public stakeholders
    • General knowledge of local government operations, authority and jurisdiction; economic development, local government legislation, as well as provincial and federal tourism, jobs and economic development support programs
    • Flexible working style to meet new and changing priorities while ensuring that work plans are managed and achieved
    • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and satisfactory Criminal Records Check
    • Proficiency in Word processing, data-base management, spreadsheets, email and social media, online resources and information management

 

  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered for this position

 

 

ETEP is funded through the provincial Rural Dividend program and Area A (RDCK).  The project will be administered by Community Connections (SKLCSS).

 

Contract Position:     estimated average 20 hours per week

Duration         January 2018 – December 2019

Compensation:     $25.00 /hr
