This is a significant four year program funded by Columbia Basin Trust. The challenges facing youth 12-19 years of age and living in a rural environment have never been greater. With the guidance of a local adult and youth based Youth Council and Youth Coordinator, this program develops, organizes, and conducts projects, events, and activities covering a wide range of youth development areas. These areas include broad employment and life skills training, wide engaging fun activities, small group or individual interest and learning support, outside community youth exchange, and youth leadership experience. To name only a few of dozens of projects run to date … many sports events, dances and drop-ins, health and food safety courses, avalanche training, exchange trips, camping and cave exploration, science projects, art and music workshops, and volunteer for job readiness. With group and youth input and experience, progress is continually evaluated and the team expects to see a high percentage of youth participation and ongoing increase in youth initiated programming.
